Smart Chartering
Traditional chartering, with a hint of AI.
Smart Chartering brings the chartering desk's core disciplines — charter party management, voyage estimation, and laytime — into one structured workspace, then adds an AI layer that reads the market and the paperwork so brokers and charterers can focus on the deal. Charter parties are managed as living documents rather than PDFs in a shared drive: key terms, rate structures, laycan windows, and special clauses are extracted into structured data, tracked through negotiation and amendments, and linked to the voyages they govern. Voyage estimates are built from real vessel performance data — speed-consumption curves, port cost history from Smart Operations, and current bunker prices — so the estimate that wins the fixture is the estimate the voyage can actually deliver. Laytime and demurrage calculations run on structured port call event data, applying the charter party's own terms to statements of fact and producing claim-ready calculations with a full evidence trail. And across all of it, AI-assisted fixture analysis surfaces what matters: how a proposed fixture compares against recent market levels, where clause language deviates from your standard terms, and which of the open positions on the desk best matches an incoming cargo enquiry.

Key Capabilities
Charter Party Management
Manage charter parties as structured data, not static documents. Key commercial terms, rate mechanisms, laycan windows, and special clauses are extracted and tracked through negotiation, execution, and amendments — with every voyage linked to the governing contract and its obligations visible to operations and finance.
Voyage Estimates
Build voyage estimates from real vessel performance curves, current bunker prices, and historical port costs rather than rules of thumb. Estimate variants compare routing, speed, and cargo alternatives side by side, and post-voyage reconciliation shows exactly where actuals deviated from the estimate that won the fixture.
Laytime & Demurrage Calculations
Apply each charter party's own laytime terms to structured port call events and statements of fact, producing accurate, claim-ready laytime and demurrage calculations with a complete evidence trail. Automated interruption handling and once-on-demurrage logic remove the manual spreadsheet work that loses claims.
AI-Assisted Fixture Analysis
An AI layer that reads fixtures the way an experienced broker does: benchmarking proposed rates against recent comparable fixtures, flagging clause language that deviates from your house terms, and scoring counterparty and voyage risk. Decision support, not black-box automation — every recommendation shows its reasoning.
Position & Enquiry Matching
Keep the desk's open positions and incoming cargo enquiries in one live view, with intelligent matching that ranks which vessels fit which cargoes on dates, specification, and estimated earnings. Fixture decisions connect directly to voyage estimates and hand over cleanly to Smart Operations once fixed.
How It Works
Capture Positions & Enquiries
Open tonnage and cargo enquiries enter the desk workspace, where matching tools rank candidate pairings by dates, specification, and estimated result. Market context from recent fixtures frames what a workable rate looks like.
Estimate & Negotiate
Voyage estimates built on real performance and cost data support the negotiation, while AI clause analysis reviews draft terms against your standards. Every counter and amendment is tracked against the developing contract.
Fix & Execute
On subjects lifted, the charter party's structured terms flow to operations and finance — the voyage plan inherits its obligations, and the laytime engine is armed with the contract's own terms before the first port call.
Settle & Learn
Laytime and demurrage calculations generate claim-ready statements as port call events close. Post-voyage analysis compares the actual result against the estimate and feeds the desk's benchmarks for the next negotiation.
