Tier 1 Module

Smart FuelEU

Navigate FuelEU Maritime with precision — from GHG intensity to pooling strategy.

Smart FuelEU is purpose-built for the FuelEU Maritime Regulation (EU 2023/1805), providing end-to-end compliance management for the world's most complex maritime fuel standard. The platform calculates well-to-wake greenhouse gas intensity for every voyage calling at EU/EEA ports, mapping fuel consumption data against the regulation's lifecycle emission factors and annual reduction targets from 2025 through 2050. Beyond compliance monitoring, Smart FuelEU is a strategic planning tool. Its pooling optimization engine identifies the most cost-effective pooling arrangements across multi-vessel fleets, quantifying the compliance surplus or deficit of each vessel and simulating pooling scenarios with external counterparties. For operators evaluating alternative fuels — LNG, methanol, ammonia, hydrogen, or advanced biofuels — the platform models the compliance impact and total cost of ownership for each pathway. The onshore power supply (OPS) mandate tracker monitors each vessel's shore-connection readiness against the 2030 requirements for container ships, passenger vessels, and other covered categories. Smart FuelEU integrates directly with Smart EMRV for emissions data and Smart EUA Settlement for carbon cost modeling, creating a unified compliance command center for the EU's Fit for 55 maritime package.

Key Capabilities

GHG Intensity Calculator

Automatically computes the well-to-wake greenhouse gas intensity of every voyage in gCO2eq/MJ, applying the regulation's default emission factors for over 30 fuel pathways including conventional fuels, LNG, bio-LNG, e-methanol, and RFNBO hydrogen. Supports custom emission factors for certified sustainable fuel batches with full chain-of-custody documentation.

Pooling Optimization Engine

Identifies the fleet's aggregate compliance balance and simulates pooling arrangements to minimize penalty exposure. The engine evaluates internal pooling across your own vessels and models external pooling scenarios with counterparties, factoring in compliance surplus pricing, contractual terms, and counterparty risk. Results update dynamically as voyage data flows in.

Alternative Fuel Pathway Modeler

Compare the compliance impact, infrastructure requirements, and lifecycle economics of transitioning to LNG, methanol, ammonia, hydrogen, or advanced biofuels. The modeler incorporates bunkering availability data from 200+ ports, retrofit cost estimates, and projected fuel price curves to deliver actionable transition roadmaps for each vessel class in your fleet.

OPS Mandate Tracker

Monitors onshore power supply readiness for every vessel subject to the 2030 mandate, tracking shore-connection equipment status, port OPS infrastructure availability, and exemption eligibility criteria. Automated alerts flag vessels at risk of non-compliance with sufficient lead time for corrective action or exemption applications.

Penalty Exposure Dashboard

Real-time visualization of your fleet's FuelEU Maritime penalty exposure, calculated per vessel and aggregated at the fleet level. The dashboard models penalty costs under current and projected GHG intensity trajectories, enabling operators to quantify the financial case for fuel switching, slow steaming, or pooling before deadlines arrive.

How It Works

1

Ingest Fuel & Voyage Data

Smart FuelEU pulls fuel consumption data, BDN records, and voyage itineraries from Smart EMRV or your existing fleet management systems. The platform maps each fuel batch to the correct well-to-wake emission factor and associates consumption with the relevant EU/EEA port calls for regulatory scoping.

2

Calculate GHG Intensity & Compliance Balance

For each reporting period, the platform computes the fleet's weighted average GHG intensity against the regulation's annual reduction target. Vessels are ranked by compliance surplus or deficit, and the aggregate fleet balance determines whether pooling, penalty payment, or borrowing from future periods is required.

3

Optimize Strategy & Simulate Scenarios

Use the pooling engine and fuel pathway modeler to evaluate alternative compliance strategies. Run what-if analyses for speed reductions, fuel switching, retrofits, or external pooling arrangements. Each scenario generates a detailed cost-benefit analysis including capex, opex, penalty savings, and carbon credit implications.

4

Submit & Report

Generate FuelEU Maritime compliance reports in the format required by administering authorities. The platform maintains a complete audit trail from raw fuel data to final submission, and integrates with the EU's FuelEU Maritime IT system for electronic filing when available.
