CyberSmart is the AI-powered maritime intelligence platform designed and developed by Varuna Marine Services B.V., a Dutch maritime solutions provider founded in 2010 and headquartered in Amsterdam. With over a decade of hands-on experience serving the world's leading shipping companies — Varuna Marine identified that the industry's greatest operational and environmental challenges are fundamentally data problems: critical data trapped in disconnected systems, decisions made on incomplete information, and compliance teams buried in manual processes.
Varuna Marine's team of Master Mariners, Engineers, Naval Architects, Surveyors, Cyber Security specialists, and Developers brings together deep maritime domain expertise with world-class capabilities in AI/ML engineering, data platform architecture, and enterprise software design. This dual DNA — understanding the operational realities of managing vessels at sea as deeply as the technology required to transform raw data into actionable intelligence — is what makes CyberSmart different. Every feature in the platform was designed with input from the ship managers, compliance officers, and technical directors who use it daily.
Today, CyberSmart's 11 Smart Modules serve as the operational nervous system for forward-thinking maritime enterprises across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania. Backed by Varuna Marine's DNV-approved ISO 9001:2015 quality management system and operating from offices in Amsterdam, Houston, Singapore, Perth, and Kuala Lumpur, the platform processes millions of data points daily to help operators make better decisions, meet their compliance obligations, and progress on their decarbonization commitments.

Key milestones in CyberSmart's growth from a maritime technology startup to a leading intelligence platform for the shipping industry.
Varuna Marine Services B.V. founded on March 25, 2010 in the Netherlands with a mission to deliver Smart Sustainable Shipping solutions. Initial focus on maritime inspection, surveying, and environmental compliance services.
Expanded service portfolio to include Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM), ballast water compliance, and asbestos management. Established partnerships with leading classification societies and flag states.
Launched emissions compliance division covering EU MRV, IMO DCS, and early CII advisory services. Began serving major fleet operators across Europe and Asia. Team grew to 50+ specialists.
Opened international offices in Singapore and Houston to serve the global shipping market. Achieved DNV-approved ISO 9001:2015 certification for quality management.
Began development of the CyberSmart AI Engine — a digital platform to automate and enhance the maritime intelligence services Varuna Marine had been delivering manually. Launched Smart EMRV and Smart Performance as the first two modules.
Expanded CyberSmart to 7 modules with Smart Navigation, Smart Operation, Smart Vessel, Smart Compliance, and Smart Simulator. Established presence in Perth, Australia and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Launched Smart EUA Settlement and Smart FuelEU in response to the EU Fit for 55 maritime package. EUA procurement and MOHA account setup services integrated into the platform. Key client roster expanded to include leading companies from across the maritime industry.
Completed the 11-module CyberSmart platform with Smart Inspect and Smart CyberSecurity (IMO MSC.428(98), IACS UR E26/E27). Maritime cyber security and NIS2 compliance became a core service line. Team reached 51-200 employees globally.
